Phytomol

Phytomol

Phytomolecules are plant derived molecules and are naturally obtained from plants. These are non-nutritive plant chemicals, plants produce these chemicals in order to protect themselves. These chemicals include primary and secondary metabolites.

Metabolites are compounds that are synthesized by plants for essential function. Primary metabolites are normally involved in development, growth and reproduction and it is required for the plant to survive. Secondary metabolites are not directly involved in development, growth and reproduction but they are involved in plant defence mechanism. Hence this secondary metabolites from plants has various health benefits.

Phytomol is a reference library which includes some phytochemicals, their sources, health benefits and structures in an easily accessible and well-structured form. Phytomol tool has been designed in such a way that it is easy to view, analyse the various phytochemicals and their properties in a format of library. It is an organised collection of information resources made accessible to a defined community for reference.

Phytomol also includes SMILE structures (i.e) Simplified Molecules Input Line Entry system. SMILE is a specification in a form of a line notation which describes the structure of each chemical molecules. Phytomol is under consistent development and this will be a good tool for the future research generation and form an effective base for researching plant molecules.

Phytomol is the outcome of contributions of the active researchers and interns of BioLim Centre for Science and Technology
